From the time Conner was 2 months old, he has had speech therapy at least once a week. For the first seven months of his life we were still in CA, and the focus was trying to get him to eat. (Pre children, I never knew that "speech" pathologists focus a lot of their time on eating difficulties with infants. Who knew?) Penny came to our house to work with Conner, and we loved her. I cried when we moved. Then entered Lida. Lida came to our new home in CO once a week until Conner turned three, and then we saw her in her office once a week until she retired when Conner was four. She is probably the one responsible for getting Conner to eat, and then getting him to talk. We cannot drive by her old office without Conner pointing it out. And, even more impressive - we cannot drive through the town where Lida moved to without Conner asking if we can stop and see if Lida wants to go to the park. Today, Conner had his last appointment with his opthamologist before our move, and since Lida lives in the town where the opthamologist is, we called her. She met us at the park, as she has done a few times when we visit, and Conner was overjoyed to see her. She even came to Conner's appointment to help watch Cayden and Allison. He just loves Lida, and he will tell you (and her!) that. When we got back on the road for our long drive home, I realized that I hadn't taken any pictures as I planned to. My stomach sank, knowing that this may have been our last visit to the park with Lida. I told Conner that I forgot to take a picture, and that I had planned to get one of Lida and Conner. Without hesitation, he told me to go back - not a question in his mind. An hour later we were back on the road, again, but this time with a picture of Conner and Lida. I am sure glad I listened to Conner! She played an amazing role in Conner's life, and she will always have a special place in our hearts!
